On Sunday 16th October, Paul Larkin found a superb adult male Isabelline Shrike along the south side of the Alpha marshes, only the 6th record for Kent. The bird attracted much attention and could be viewed from the public footpath leading out to Cliffe Creek from the RSPB car park. The bird favoured bramble clumps along one of the narrow ditches. The bird was still present yesterday (17th October), but we've had no reports of sightings today.

Here is a photograph taken by Paul Larkin:

many thanks for the excellent photo Paul!

  • Alan,

Thanks for posting, me and my wife was there with our bins, but couldn't pick out this rare spot.

We did enjoy a spectacular close view of the Kestrel hunting next to the car park though. I was over the moon when it hovered at eye level , less than 20 feet in front of us.

I will post some pics...although they are not great as I was so excited to be so close to the action.
