A hotter day still. Large Red and Azure Damselflies flying. 4 young goldfinch seen on feeders.

Norma H. - 16 Black-tailed Godwit on Saltmarsh Pool.

12th June.

Still very warm with slightly more cloudy conditions. Green-veined White and Orange Tip Butterflies on the wing.

13th June.

Overcast but still warm with a slight NE wind.

A damp cold NE wind was blowing in the morning but the sun came out about 2.30 pm and, in sheltered spots out of the wind, it was very warm.

 15th June.

A sunny warm day.

LOGBOOK sightings.

DB.- Cuckoo, Whitethroat, Bullfinch, Reed Bunting and Sedge Warbler.

16th June.

A rather dull day but warm enough.

A report seen, recounting sightings on Bowness Common by Mike Porter: saw 2 Cuckoos; had a good view of flying bird across the Common pursued by a Meadow Pipit;  a Sedge Warbler tried to chase him and his dog off the territory (had a Large Red Damselfly in its beak); Grasshopper Warbler singing; Tree Sparrow using nest box near Rogersceugh farm and young Stonechats around.

 17th June.

Gentle rain until high tide at 12.30pm and then intermittent sunshine thereafter. Strong westerly wind set up in the evening, lashing the trees and vegetation.

A good collection of Shelduck on the mudflats as the tide went out.

18th June.

A strong cold NW wind blew all day.


Shelduck flying west along the saltmarsh.

19th June.


Juvenile Great Spotted Woodpecker still getting fed although it can take peanuts from hangers.


Still good numbers of Shelduck on the mudflats.

 

19th June.

Cold and overcast with a light wind blowing.

A good collection of duck still out on the mudflats at 12.08pm: 65 Shelduck. Shortly after, three Little Egret flew west along the Saltmarsh, in tight formation.

20th June.

Building numbers of duck off Scargavel Point: 175 Shelduck and 66 Mallard.

Brian B. reported having seen a Lesser Whitethroat between Bowness and the Viaduct and a Whitethroat this side, as he came on duty this morning.

Arable Field near the Centre - New Notice reads:

" Half the field contains Kale which will provide seed for declining farmland birds such as Linnets and Reed Bunting over the coming winter. The other half contains Mustard and Clover which will provide some seed after the breeding season - but will also fix nitrogen into the soil as a green manure to prevent the need for inorganic fertilisers"

LOGBOOK sightings:

JR's -  Sparrowhawk, Swift, 2 Roe Deer(one with fawn), Mallard with 6 ducklings (pond in front of the hide), Large Red Damselfly, Green-veined White Butterfly, Small Tortoiseshell, Song Thrush, 2 Buzzard ( over farm/ Rogersceugh), Great Spotted Woodpecker with Juvenile, Two pair of Bullfinch with young, Swift over Saltmarsh.

RD & RC - 3 Willow Warblers, 1Whitethroat (Phragmites area), Sedge Warbler, Chiffchaff, Buzzard, Curlew (heard),Wren, Skylarks, House Martin, Carrion Crow, Lizard, Azure Damselfly, 2 Roe Deer (on edge of distant wood).

Hedge on the left, laid by Stephen and the workparty only a few years ago, has regenerated well.

215 Shelduck on the mudflats this morning - no Mallard.
