Review.

It was an extraordinary Day! With day-long warm sunshine, record numbers of visitors were able to enjoy the full extent of the Reserve and all the day’s special activities.

The Wetlands Centre with plant, pin badge, produce and book stalls, and a display of the previous night’s moth trap results. And, not to be forgotten, Dave S’s beautiful wildlife display representing the RSPB’s local group from Cockermouth. If Bird Box construction was your thing, that was there too.

On the Discovery field, of particular interest, was pond dipping with Steve R. on hand with expert advice; bug hunting with Dave B. ready to help with identification and Mhairi M. managing the RSPB display and wildlife badge stamping.

Finally, to cap it all, were wildlife walks through the buttercup meadows of the farmland and across the cotton grass filled raised Moss - with Dragonflies, Damselflies, Butterflies and young birds all emerging.

After all this, one was ready for the splendid refreshments laid on. Of particular note was Marjorie H’s splendid Lemon Drizzle cake and generous helpings of moist fruit cake with a choice of hot and cold drinks.

A fitting end to a very happy day!
