Its been a frosty start to the year on the reserve. The last month has seen the start of woodlarks singing across the heath, a sign that the bird breeding season is not far away. A Dartford warbler was heard from the nightjar viewpoint with several stonechats being seen perched on top of the lone pine saplings. A raven was heard “cronking” over the heath yesterday.

Flocks of up to 12 crossbills have been seen across the reserve. Look out for them at the top of a mature pine tree near the shooting butts.

A reed bunting was seen near the car park, an uncommon sight at Broadwater Warren.

Last weekend there was a first record for the sight when a ring-necked parakeet flew over the car park.

Flocks of siskins and lesser redpolls can be seen feeding on the larches or alder trees in the woods as well as mixed flocks of tits including marsh tit, gold crest, treecreeper and occasionally bullfinches.

In icy view down at decoy pond.

Please let us know of any sightings you may have on the reserve.
