This week a pair of Grey Wagtails have returned to Broadwater Warren at the Decoy pond. This is where they successfully reared two broods last year.

Flocks of Meadow Pipits can still be seen feeding on the heaths as well as a pair of Stonechats near the Shooting buts. A flock of about 100 finches, mainly made up of Lesser Redpoll and Siskin continue to be seen in the Larches as well as drinking from puddles on the tracks.

Two Kestrels continue to hover and hunt around the Eastern and Western Heath and Yellowhammers are starting to sing their 'a-little-bit-of-bread-with-no-cheeeeeese’ song.

With the warm weather, signs of spring are returning with the appearance of several Brimstone and Peacock butterflies being seen in the woodland. Also keep an eye for movement on the big mounds of leaf litter in the woods, as Wood Ants are beginning to become more active with the warming temperatures.

Keep an eye out along the paths in the undergrowth around the heath for Adders, they should start to come out of hibernation soon to bask on warm sunny days.

Please let us know of any interesting sightings you see on the reserve.
