A lot of work has been going on over the last month at Broadwater!
The stumps have been ground out and the last of the debris from the conifer clearance has been scraped off. A wetland area has been created on the heath by damming and reshaping the watercourse. Look out for bathing larks and feeding woodcock in spring! Work around the Decoy Pond is well under way, with only a bit more coppicing left and native tree planting happening in the New Year. The new dead hedge along the pond edge is helping to deter dogs from the water, as well as providing shelter for a friendly robin that pops out when we have lunch there.
While Steve and I were putting the information signs around the pond a couple of weeks ago, we met a nice chap called Sam Muffett who was out taking photos on the reserve. He kindly sent us some of his pictures and hopefully you’ll agree that they’re pretty smashing! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
