An interesting week with a great white egret visiting us on Monday and Tuesday and a superb view of an adult mediterranean gull on xerox this morning.  We have also seen both long-eared and short eared owl on the reserve this week.  Wader wise our black-tailed godwits continue to be present on xerox (often sleeping in the corner), three spotted redshank pop into the reserve from time to time on most days and avocets are coming and going a bit this week - today was a good day with 61 on marshland but last weekend only 6 were using the reserve.  House martin is the latest of the summer visitors arriving at Blacktoft this week joining the likes of swallow, sand martin and chiffchaff.  Our bittern continues to be seen most days and our marsh harriers are still mucking about in front of the hides.  With five marsh harriers often seen in front of reception where else could you arrive to see so many marsh harriers at once.
