I just thought that you might be interested to know that the RSPB's Letter to the Future, which calls for better investment in nature, has now been signed over 300, 000 times. This is brilliant news and shows the coalition Government just how much nature means to us all. We initially hoped that we would have this many signatures by Spring 2011, but this target has been smashed ahead of time thanks to all you nature lovers out there!

If you haven't signed the Letter to the Future yet, why not? For over 100 years the RSPB has fought to give nature a voice in an ever more technologically dominated, economically driven world. The birds and wildlife that you love depend on the diverse mosaic of habitats that the British landscape has to offer. We are campaigning for the long term protection of these species, habitats and landscapes so that future generations will continue to benefit from - and be inspired by - them. Just imagine if there were no longer thousands of gannets breeding on the chalk arch at Staple, or if you could no longer hear the kittiwakes calling at Bempton Cliffs.

We'll use signatures to ask politicians to do six things, which are at the heart of our conservation work:

  1. create a countryside fit for wildlife

  2. safeguard our sealife

  3. stop extinctions

  4. save the rainforests

  5. stop climate chaos

  6. inspire children through nature

If you want to add your voice to the RSPB campaign then there are several ways to do it. You can either come in to visit the staff at the visitor centre on the reserve, or you can sign the petition online by clicking on this link: http://www.rspb.org.uk/letter. We'd love to see you at the centre though because we just know you'll enjoy a bracing walk on the clifftop followed by a cup of tea and a bit of a debate afterwards...
