It has been another busy week here at RSPB Belfast Harbour Reserve. Our team of volunteers have played an important role in the run up to RSPB NI’s Big Wild Sleep Out, which happens this Saturday. They have been cutting wood for the campfires at the event, which will allow for plenty of singing and marshmallow toasting to go ahead well into the night!

Secondly, the team have had a go at making their own mini beast hotel, as seen in the new RSPB tv advert. This home for nature simply involves piling dead wood to attract a number of creepy crawlies in. We have brought a sample of our hotel’s guests into the visitor centre for people to enjoy. So far visitors have found a range of different beastie guests, including, Ants, Slugs, Snails, Woodlice and even a Shield Bug! Why not make your own and welcome some new guests into your garden?

Birdlife is also thriving on the reserve, with many of our Terns preparing for their long journey South. For a chance to see the Terns before they go, make sure to book on to our guided walk on the 24th of August, where we will say goodbye to our departing visitors and hello to some new arrivals.

Hope to see you soon
