This year marks the start of the last year for the Heritage Lottery Funded Beckingham Marshes project. That doesn’t mean the site’s going anywhere of course; it will just be the end of the first phase of the project.

What this means for us is that we’re going to be very busy! We’re working in partnership with Kismet Theatre Company who are working on a theatrical performance that tells the story of and celebrates Beckingham Marshes. This will be performed at various events during late summer and autumn of this year, including the Marsh Fayre, which will be run along with Beckingham and Saundby History Group. The event will be held at both the Old Willow Works and Beckingham Village Hall on Saturday 20th September. Updates on this and more can be found at http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/b/beckinghammarshes/index.aspx

The first guided walk of the year will be held on Sunday April 13th, so if you’ve not been yet and would like to find out more about the project, then please contact us using the details below.

Our Wednesday work party volunteers have been working alongside Beckingham residents and school children at the Willow Works during March, to help establish a hedgerow in the community garden. If you’d like to get involved with the upkeep of the garden (or the reserve) then please get in touch.

As spring approaches, it has been pleasing to see an increase in wildlife activity on site. Numerous Brown Hares have been seen cavorting across the fields and numbers of ducks and waders are starting to increase. It’s been a year since I last saw signs of Water Vole on site, but I found some footprints in the mud near the visitor trail recently too.
