As summer marches on, we have been starting to let some of the water out of the Haugh, revealing lots and lots of wonderful, sticky, gloopy and often smelly mud. Not so nice for humans, but as ever it is proving popular with plenty of wading birds as they start making their way south from their summer breeding haunts. Armed with their long legs and beaks, all the mud at Baron's Haugh is the perfect place for a feed. In the last few days we have been graced with some incredibly beautiful ruff scurrying over the goo. Snipes have been scuttling in and out of the reeds to probe the mud with their incredibly long beaks. Black tailed godwits have been looking stately, whilst flocks of lapwings have been squabbling over the best place to tuck in. And all of this is often close to our bird watching hides, giving some fantastic wildlife watching moments over the next few months. As the migration season continues, expect more arrivals anytime!
