Planes across the south may be grounded, but the Arne skies were full with bird activity. Swallows and House Martins soared above the heathland, where the Northern variant of Willow Warbler was spotted amongst its more commoner conterparts. The reserves first Pied Flycatcher of the year put on a show down by the farm with accompanying 'Cuckoos' from another new arrival.

The regular Spoonbill and Dartfords were spotted throughout the day as were many species of Butterfly whose numbers are growing steadily on the reserve. Via live video link the Barn Owls put on a few 'adult' scenes, whilst still not happy with his work the male Great Spotted Woodpecker continued to be a photographers best friend in his excavations of his nest hole and showered the public in woodshavings throughout the day.
