Farmer Nicholas Watts has been providing habitat for wildlife on his farm in Lincolnshire for many years. This year, his continuing efforts were rewarded when over a thousand tree sparrows were fledged, and ringed, on his farm.

  • Hi Robbo,

Thanks for your comment. Supplementary feeding can be a lifeline for many species, particularly during the winter when other sources are depleted or unavailable. Providing food all year round can be done through more 'natural' means, and the farm described here has lots of other measures in place to do just that for the benefit of birds and other wildlife. The Farm Wildlife partnership advocates a holistic approach to farmland conservation, helping farmers to put these sorts of measures in place to support the broadest range of wildlife through every season.
