Five ways to fundraise this festive period without even knowing it

Community fundraising manager, Sophie Feboul, shares some of her top tips for raising money for nature when you’re shopping or coming together with friends and family this festive season.

1. Easyfundraising – donate for free to the RSPB whilst you shop online
Buying food, clothes, insurance, presents, holidays or indeed anything online? If you sign up free to Easyfundraising and shop with any of their partnered 7000 brands online, they’ll donate free to the RSPB – no catches, no fuss and simply the easiest way to raise funds for the RSPB. If you are keeping your Christmas shopping sustainable, check out pre-owned shops like ‘eBay’ and ‘preloved’ and raise money for conservation at the same time – a double win! 2. Buy an RSPB pin badge
Everyone adores an RSPB nature pin badge! Get your own today, complete your collection or stock up on stocking fillers by ordering badges from our online eBay shop. With hundreds of different styles and species, you will love choosing your favourites. Sign me up for a festive Robin! Visit the RSPB pin badge eBay shop here.

3. Grab your gifts and eco-crackers from the RSPB shop
When buying gifts for loved ones (or yourself) this year, don’t forget to use the RSPB shop. Bag yourself some eco-crackers and save on that plastic waste. There is an abundance of choice from toys, books, clothes, homeware and more.

4. Become a member
Being an RSPB member has never been more important. Not only will it help raise vital income for nature, but together we can give nature a voice. Sign yourself up and/or consider gifting a membership to others this year. In return you will receive the RSPB magazine and have access to our wonderful nature reserves across the UK. Find out more about becoming a member here.

5. Take on a challenge for nature
Ok, this one does take a bit more effort, but if you’re feeling up for a challenge why not do it while raising money for nature? Maybe you want to bring your community together with a mince pie and coffee morning. Feeling physical – a real or ‘virtual’ walk, run or swim or bike might be your thing and help kickstart a New Years Resolution. Or get creative – a sponsored bake, knit, quiz or bird watch – the world is your oyster! Be as cool as Timothy who completed 10,000 skips for Black-Tailed Godwits and raised over £300! If you are part of a club, get them in on your mission like the marvellous Destination Judo group who have raised £9,000 by participating in their challenge. Using a platform such as JustGiving allows you to easily create a fundraising page and start your journey.

Whatever you get up to this festive season, it really does mean the world to us. We know times can be tight, but these simple ideas show that supporting a charity over the giving season does not have to break the bank and you might not even notice you are doing it!
