RSPB Hope Farm in Cambridgeshire has given an inspiring tale of its 20 year experiment to re-introduce threatened farmland bird species in impressive numbers. In the 1950s on my grandfathers mixed arable and beef farm the haunting call of curlews, lapwings and nightingales singing sublimely overhead was common. It was a time when farming and nature seemed to co-exist naturally and happily together. Why can't we get back more of that magic in farming today and how can the farming community be more inspired to make it work. Hope farm have proved they can still make a profit without forfeiting nature at its best.
