Of all the bird species captured on cam' by our readers, kingfishers are undoubtedly one of the most popular. Brightly coloured, beautifully marked and often sitting perfectly still as they target their aquatic prey, they are perfectly suited to photography, exuding an air of regal superiority (hence the name?) and an almost serene calmness.

Unless you're these two, who appear to be a having a rather heated discussion as to whose branch this is!

Many thanks to Nick for this photo which shows a juvenile female and an adult female fighting over territory on the River Stour in Blandford, Dorset. Nicholas said "I went there to hopefully see this & try & photograph I felt very lucky to do both."

Sent in as part of a sequence, the full range of shots will be available in a separate blog at a future date. If you've got any unique and wonderful photos like Nick's send them to natureshome@rspb.org.uk
