Happy St David's Day to one and all. I have a real affinity with Wales as I lived in Cardiff between the ages of five and six. At this age it was that perfect time when my affinity to the natural world began. Memories are intoxicating of heady days of building bird nests with grass clipping (big enough for my younger brother), fishing for sticklebacks in the stream behind our house and building forts in the local wood. I celebrated St David's Day twice while I was there, singing songs (the small bit of Welsh I remember to this day) and sporting massive leeks and daffodils. So at this time of year when the narcissus are out and bobbing their heads it gives me that warm nostalgic feeling inside. OK, so here goes my tenuous link of the day. Try not to be like the Greek mythological character Narcissus, who looked at his reflection all day in a pond. Go out and immerse yourself in the natural world, look past the reflection of the pond and to the world below of bugs and beasts and maybe the occasional leech. Nature is amazing, bizarre and wonderful. You will see that the daffodils concur, with nods of agreement, as they dance upon St David's Day.
