London’s Mayor, Boris Johnson was clearly impressed by Istanbul’s Ataturk International airport.  But, please, can we all try and avoid him being delayed!  It gave him time to think, and try to breathe life into his dream of building a huge airport in the Thames estuary.

The resounding chorus of 'no' is clearly falling on deaf ears – his plan is flawed.  It’s not just the airport that should concern us but the additional paraphernalia that goes with it – especially the barriers that would connect the airport to Essex and Kent.

Experience shows that placing a barrier across a major estuary brings long term and profound impacts to flood defences upstream and to the coasts that have to receive the water that can no longer enter the Thames estuary unimpeded.  At every level his dream of marbled halls, high end shopping and white elephants is an unwelcome threat to our coast.

So if you see Boris waiting for plane – please buy him a good book, any suggestions?
