As the public inquiry into proposals to develop Lydd Airport continues I’ve set up my online alerts to ping through items to do with the area (I’m getting a lot of mouth-watering recipes for Dungeness crab – but from the west coast of the USA. I didn’t know there was a Dungeness in Washington State – but it’s got a National Wildlife Refuge and an historic lighthouse. I feel a twinning thing coming on (if there isn’t one already!)
I did know of the great storm of 1287 (we Kent folk know our great storms – as the 1987 one 700 years later is still fresh in the memory) – but I’d forgotten the details, here’s an interesting account in the Guardian.
I wonder what happened to Dunge and his friends on that violent night? They're still here rolling around the coast.
Follow me (and Dunge) on twitter for updates on what the future holds for this special places.
