I have to admit I haven’t spent a night in a tent for a few years.
But that’s all about to change – for next weekend is Big Wild Sleepout and I have a very excited 8 year old already making plans for our night under canvass. Lots of people will be camping in RSPB reserves around the country – we’ll be in the garden.
Jack is expecting the works – stories, nocturnal creatures and a full cooked breakfast. My aims are a little less ambitious – mainly that the pumpy-up bed doesn’t spring a leak!
But I share his enthusiasm for what nature we can spot and the moth trap will cast an eyrie blue light on proceedings. One thing is certain jack’s sponsored species spot (10 creatures, 5 of which are birds) looks like it’s in the bag!
If you’d like to sponsor Jack’s species spot – here’s the link.
And here's one of the creatures we hope to see - a privet hawkmoth
