We’ve been receiving tragic news from Kenya reporting that violent attacks have left villagers dead and communities devastated - here’s coverage on the BBC.

The environmental challenges that the area faces have been documented on this blog – as has the close working relationship between staff at our BirdLife International partner, Nature Kenya, and the people of the Delta.

Displacement of local people is nothing new – here’s a post from January, but recently there were signs that real progress was being made. Helen Byron RSPB’s International site conservation officer reported on encouraging steps that were starting to resolve conflict.

The people of the Tana River Delta are in our thoughts at this difficult time.

NatureKenya is doing what it can to help raise funds to support the victims and if you are interested in helping them – here’s the link.
