I get the feeling that this blog is going to be busy over the next few weeks. The budget this week has been picked to pieces by pundits – and I’m not going to add that list, here’s RSPB Conservation Director, Martin Harper, giving his perspective.

The budget has raised the temperature on development projects – and has created interest in the media. Here’s the Daily Telegraph’s take on what Planning Minister Nick Boles was saying to developers (pinch of salt available).

As I’m writing this, there are conversations going on in the office about Lodge Hill, in North Kent, and what happens next. No doubt that this case is going to become more high profile, and sadly this special place will still be in jeopardy when its iconic nightingales return in a few short weeks.

Media speculation is also growing around a decision on the proposed extension of Lydd airport, also in Kent.  We’ve all been waiting for ages for a decision – does an upsurge in media attention indicate an imminent announcement? We don’t know, but this blog has followed up work to protect one of the UK’s most protected places for wildlife – and I’ll bring you news as soon as we have it.
