I believe that the Greater Thames should be an amazing place to live, work and visit.
The Greater Thames Futurescape represents the RSPB’s contribution to putting together the pieces of the landscape.
Our vision includes the phrases “economic powerhouse”, “thriving nature”, “urban regeneration” and “vibrant communities” in recognition of the fact that without any one of these individual components (like gin without tonic, or strawberries without cream) the Greater Thames will never be able to reach its full potential.
I believe that without action to restore, adapt and enhance existing habitats and create new ones, important wildlife could be lost from the Greater Thames within the next century.
I believe that a healthy economy is underpinned by a healthy environment – our efforts in the Greater Thames will help ensure other land-uses are integrated with and support nature.
I know that no organisation or individual can do this alone.
Which is why on Thursday we are bringing together industry leaders, senior politicians, transport chiefs and conservation groups at a landmark partnership event to discuss how we can work together to deliver a shared vision for the Greater Thames.
Not only will this event will mark a commitment from all sectors to secure the future of this special place, but it will be a wonderful opportunity to learn about how we can support one another in doing so.
It is my hope that Thursday will be the first step towards delivering BIG for local communities, economies and nature; I’m looking forward to making new connections and hearing fresh ideas.
My only question now is: what will you do for the Greater Thames?
