In stark contrast to Shepway District Council who voted to live under the flight path of commercial airliners last week – Mayor of London, Boris Johnson is saying he doesn’t want an airport. His plans for a new airport in the Thames estuary have taken a turn for the worse ever since he confessed that he ‘does not want to build an airport in the Thames estuary’ on last week’s Question Time.
Since then statements have clarified his position as one of seeking a mature exploration of the options while recognising that there are no current plans for an airport in the Thames. If true, we welcome the signals that this proposal is heading for the lengthening shelf of rejected Thames airports. The proposal has certainly brought together a broad array of opposition, no mean feat in itself.
Meanwhile – we will continue to press for mature exploration of the issues at Lydd through a public inquiry.
