I’ve not been counting, as I’ve just realised this is the 501st post on Saving Special Places. That’s quite a lot over the last three years and a bit.
This blog’s main theme is the protection of our finest wildlife sites – but I hope we’ve also recognised the importance of all the rest in between. Much of our landscape is farmed (both within and outside our designated sites aka special places) – and the future settlement of the European Union’s budget will strongly influence the funding available to help farmers keep wildlife in our countryside. But there’s even more; its is a vital source of funding for the protection for those special places.
Already over 22,000 of you have signed up to ask our Prime Minister, David Cameron, to vote for wildlife in crucial negotiations starting on 7 February. We’re calling for sensible, value for money decisions and you can help build momentum ahead of this crucial vote – here’s how.
But that is not all – other vital decisions are going to shape how the UK can look after its wildlife heritage – you can read more in Mike McCarthy’s article in today’s Independent and in our Conservation Director’s blog.
If you’ve signed the message to the PM – thank you! If not please consider doing it as soon as possible as the clock is ticking.
