Magic the Rook

This is Magic, our pet Rook, watching the telly in our living room. Magic arrived here just over a year ago in a terrible state. He'd been shot and his right wing was shattered. We patched him up ourselves, as the vets we tried didn't want to know, and he now lives in the living room in our house. He'll never fly again as the wing was too badly damaged but apart from that he seems to be a very happy bird.

He'll sit on your arm, hand or shoulder and will take food straight from your hand. He's got lots of toys to keep him busy. Unless he's actually asleep he's always doing something, never seems to stop, and we've learned a lot from just watching him. He likes to provide commentary for the snooker and the formula 1, funny that, and will make a deafening racket if he hears you switch on the grill in the kitchen. He loves toast!

We have a large cage in the corner of the living room  which is his "safe place", but he gets out every day when the dogs and cat are outside.

Having watched him for over a year now, I'm still constantly amazed at the level of intelligence in these creatures. He's a joy to be with.
