Who says you can’t make a difference when you’re young? Jake and Hannah Groves tell us how it is for young people volunteering at their favourite reserve.

Me and my sister love being volunteers at RSPB Sandwell Valley.

We get to help with setting up equipment, craft ideas for events and also helping on the events themselves, as most of the activities we have done before so can always help others.

There are plenty of other helpful volunteers who can guide us in the right direction if we need any assistance.

My Dad is also a volunteer and works with the Wildlife Explorer group, Sandwell Swans, which we also get to help with too.

We set up the classroom and get all of the craft equipment out that we know we will need.

After all of that, we still have a bit of time to birdwatch around the reserve, do some pond dipping and bug hunting.

The RSPB is a great place to spend the weekend.

All our volunteering opportunities are open to anyone of any age with or without your brother or sister! Check out our volunteering opportunities or get inspired to help nature at rspb kids and schools
