September brought very mixed feelings for me, on the one hand I was sad to leave Old Hall Marshes, but on the other, I was really looking forward to beginning a new challenge at the RSPB reserve at Minsmere. There was a lot to cram into the month, with new surveys carried out, existing projects to be finalised, handover notes written for the new volunteers as well as completing the usual weekly reserve tasks. Unfortunately one of the cows caught a nasty case of influenza so had to be caught and treated.
Mrs Horns is in the crush getting a vital dose of anti-biotics.
A remnant of Old Hall’s wildfowling past, an old railway carriage once used for shooting, which is one of two, still standing on the reserve. Now it is occasionally visited by the more adventurous greylag goose or disorientated volunteer!
First Class is not what it used to be!
