Do you grow vegetables in your garden or allotment? If you do, your spare marrows, beans or spuds could be a great way to raise money for the RSPB.   Tony Fox, a member of Guildford Local Group has been selling his beans in a box outside his house since 2002. The locals buy his produce and put the money in an honesty box. So far he has raised a fantastic £1,000! What a star volunteer! Thank you Tony, brilliant idea.

  • What an excellent way to raise funding Tony, well done! Fundraising can take many and varied forms and using something you have a passion for is an even better way to do it. I am often contacted by my volunteer fundraisers who tell me they have raised money by baking cakes and selling them locally or are having a quiz night in their local pub or those volunteers who enjoy running and cycling get local people to sponsor them for the RSPB. True Localism whilst having fun doing it!

  • Love that idea - well done Tony! I only started growing my own veg this year and it is very rewarding when you get a bumper harvest but then end up trying to give the excess away to friends - I'll have to try the honesty box idea.

  • What a great idea.  And what a lot of beans he must have sold to raise £1000 (or are they just very expensive?!).  I think I could do something similar with the million apples I get from my apple tree.  Leaving some for the birds of course!
