It has been a turbulent time in politics. A new prime minister means a new opportunity to take a more positive direction for nature. We need to see action from Rishi Sunak and the UK Government to halt the plans which threaten our water, air, beaches and rivers. We need the UK Government to halt their attack on nature, now.

We’ve shown that shoulder-to-shoulder, united in support of nature, we are a force to be reckoned with. Over 100,000 of you have written to your MP and asked them to stop the attack on nature. We are truly appreciative of your continued support.

“I’ve written to my MP, what next?”

Now, more than ever, MPs from all political parties need to be defending nature. You can help by having urgent conversations with your MPs across England. By having polite, peaceful and respectful conversations, you can help MPs to understand just how many people love wildlife and give them confidence to step up for nature.

What that looks like is up to you! Here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing:

  • Arrange to meet your MP at one of their constituent surgeries.
  • Organise a group nature walk or gathering in a local green space and invite your MP along.
  • Are you part of an RSPB Local Group or a community group? You could invite your MP to your next event.
  • Meet with your friends, family or neighbours to create an artwork or video of your hopes and fears for the future of nature in the UK, and send it your MP.
  • Organise a peaceful rally in your town centre and invite your MP to speak.
  • Take inspiration from the community of North East Hampshire, who organised a local gathering and invited their MP, the UK Environment Secretary, presenting their worries about the attack on nature.

Whatever you choose to do, the important thing is that you demonstrate to your political representatives that local people want to see nature protected. You don’t need to be an expert in nature conservation or politics, you just need to show that you and your community cares.

To help you organise a local event, we’ll be releasing a toolkit with helpful guides, downloadable graphics, and more. We can also link you up with like-minded people near you.

We also call on our supporters to join Chris Packham’s Walk for Wildlife 2 in London on 26th November. We’ll continue to work with Chris and his team moving forward.

More information, including the toolkit, will be coming very soon. In the meantime, please send any questions or ideas to campaigns@rspb.org.uk

Together we can stop this attack on nature.
