I've really got something to squawk about!!

Every now and then over the past six months I’ve asked you all to Step Up for Sealife.  Most notably, I've rather banged on about signing our seabird pledge.... (there's still time you know!).  No doubt many of you have been stepping up for nature in other ways too.  Big or small, every step helps make a difference, and I bet many of you have taken steps without even knowing it.

Well, I’m thrilled to tell you that in the last 6 months, over a million steps for nature have already been taken. That’s one step every 18 seconds. And that's just the ones we know about.  Wow, a huge pat on the back, that’s no mean feat!

There are countless ways you can step up for nature. In the past six months (in addition to signing our seabird pledge of course....), you might have collected rubbish from your local beach, sought out seafood from sustainable sources, collected stamps for our Save the Albatross campaign, bought something from one of our shops, donated money to save rockhopper penguins affected by an oil spill in Tristan da Cunha, stepped up your efforts to recycle, or perhaps you volunteer for the RSPB. And of course being a member is one huge step for nature conservation in itself.

See, I bet you have been stepping up without even knowing it!

Well, I just want to take a moment to thank you for your support without which we couldn’t even begin to try to tackle the catastrophic declines in bird species and other wildlife, and the damage and destruction of their habitats. With your help we’ve been able to get the laws we need to protect the marine environment, and help turn around the fortunes of other wildlife like bitterns, corncrakes, stone curlews and great yellow bumblebees.

Every small step you take can make a big difference, and if everyone acts together, nature stands a chance.

In light of the massive amount of support we’ve already received, and look set to continue receiving, we hope the UK Government realises that it too must step up to help save the natural world or risk being left behind.

One step you can take today is to spread the word - encourage 5 friends or family to sign our seabird pledge too.
