There's just something about chocolate. Even those of us who can’t eat it find it difficult to resist. And at the moment the shops are full of the stuff! As soon as the Christmas rush was over, the signs of Easter egg madness started to make their way onto the shelves.
If, like me, you haven’t bought your Easter treats yet, just stop and think for a second. Whilst chocolate is super tasty, it can also be really bad for rainforests. There’s the age old chestnut of the hidden palm oil in many types of chocolate, but there’s also the added issue of areas of rainforest being cleared to make room for cocoa farming.
Now, we know it’s not easy to know if products are rainforest friends or foes, but there are some things you can do, so before you buy your eggs this year check out our top tips below:
- Why not ditch the traditional egg and try our Love Nature chocolate. It's not only palm oil free, but it's fairtrade and organic too!
- Keep your eyes peeled for more sustainable palm oil labels, such as Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).
- Choose products that have the Rainforest Alliance stamp of approval (you can find out which brands are certified by clicking here).
