Two years after the implementation of the NPOA-S in Argentina, the first workshop was held as a follow-up to the plan. In the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development over 40 specialists including researchers, academics and members of Non-government Organisations plus representatives from relevant government offices met to discuss the progress under the plan. Argentina ATF was delighted to be present!

The objective of this workshop was to present the activities that have been developed over the past couple of years and discuss the next steps required to progress in four key issues:

  • Observer training;
  • Improving data collection through on-board observers;
  • Minimize by-catch through adoption of mitigation measures;
  • Strengthening required research identified in the plan.

ATF Argentina presented the work conducted in recent years on the efficiency of mitigation measures in industrial trawl vessels. The audience showed great interest and encouraged us to continue activities and supported our work in obtaining implementation of bird-scaring lines in the industrial trawl fleet.

We are getting close to one of our main objectives!
