This herring gull is clearly getting in the mood for Spring .......... it's looking pristinely clean, and the streaky grey head has been replaced by one of glorious white. There's only one, small problem ............ just how do you get that determined offspring from last year to move on without hurting its feelings?
The food begging cries could be heard all over the Ferry!
Making a break for it ..........
............ ever get the feeling someone's watching your every move?
'Has he gone yet?'
Oh, no!
'I'm a hard working bird............'
'.........what did I do to deserve this?'
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Great sequence of photos and captions Clare !

Lowestoft?????????
Lovely photos, Clare. We spent a most enjoyable few hours with the Gulls at Dunbar harbour yesterday.
My bird photos HERE
You would think these Mums would form a creche, I know I would have been only too glad to if my babe had cried like these youngsters can. Lovely clear photos Clare.
Lot to learn
This youngster has almost survived through its first winter. Let's hope all the young birds get through the terrible weather this week.
I have one exactly the same age in the front of the houses here, it's Mum is so patient and has shown it how to pad for the worms, I'm sure they will survive well over this nasty period of weather, there is always a corner somewhere for them to duck behind, and a beach down the road if this area gets too badly frozen. It is the smaller birds I worry about just now, they are all feeding madly throughout the day.
Herring gulls are fantastic parents. I can hardly name a more protective bird ........ though ospreys and peregrines are right up there!
Very nice pictures Clare.
