What a disgusting day it was supposed to be today. It therefore came as a very pleasant surprise when the local weather forecast abruptly changed to a mainly dry day - we even got some sunlight. It was a welcome improvement in the weather for us as Limpy was on afternoon duty at Trimley Marshes - naturally I accompanied him with camera in hand.
Lots of birds were taking to the air - you'd almost think they were also celebrating the dry afternoon:
Great black-backs always look hard, even when they're happy!
A pair of greylag geese head off.
A stunning flyby from this mute swan.
I love the sharp contrast between black and white on a magpie's wings as it flies.
A tough-looking juvenile gull - my guess is another black-back.
Last of the gull flybys!
A single godwit leads the flight of the plovers!
These shelducks headed off for some peace and quiet.
A mixed bunch of lapwings, plovers and the odd starling.
'Where did she come from? Watch out below!'
'Scarper, lads!'
Enjoy, as always.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Great thread Clare-glad you are able to get an unexpected trip out. Nice shot of the juv GBB Gull with his black blob on the end of his beak!

Heavens, you did have a busy day Clare and yet more lovely species and photos to enjoy. The GBB.Gull in flight is wonderful, not a bird I'd like to argue with lol

There were certainly lots of guests at that airborne party. Great to see.

A lot of airborne activity. What huge flocks of plovers. You get the impression that things are on the move with spring just round the corner. I like the Barnacles too.
