Good afternoon everyone,

I hope you are well.

Today the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race begun!

The crews of the clippers are on a whopping 40,000 mile adventure from Tower Bridge - the first leg of the Clipper Race ends in Marina da Gloria, Rio de Janeiro! The fleet of 12, 70ft ocean racing yachts will not be returning until July 2014 after a total of 670 crew race 40,000 miles and visit 16 ports on six continents.

Did you know - it's the first time London has hosted the Clipper Race, and the first time in 40 years that the Thames has featured a round the world race!

They have just passed the reserve - we all waved! We wish the crews good luck!

Keep an eye out we'll have better pictures!

Out of interest - we went on the roof to watch (I've not been on the roof before so it seemed like a good idea)... Let me tell you getting off the roof isn't as easy as it looks!

We've had great views of the curlew sandpiper, spotted redshank, greenshank, sandpipers, sparrowhawks, hobbys, marsh harrier, buzzard and loads of wasp spiders!
