Above: volunteer week at RSPB Cors Ddyga

At the beginning of June a group of ten volunteers came to celebrate Volunteers' Week with us at RSPB Cors Ddyga (formally known as RSPB Malltraeth Marsh). We had a great time learning about the work of other volunteers over the last few years. For example RSPB Cors Ddyga’s Assistant Warden, Ken Maurice, told us about the habitat management of the site, including fencing, reed cutting, clearing water courses and the elimination of invasive species such us Himalayan balsam. And it was especially good hear about all the hard work while we were eating cakes too!

We had the chance to walk around and see some special and seasonal birds on the reserve, for example, we saw swallows, swifts, Canada geese, reed bunting, reed warblers, lapwings with their chicks, a marsh harrier and we heard rumours going around of a flying bittern.

Finally the time came to get our hands dirty as we built some nest boxes for smaller birds such us blue tits and great tits and we now have eight new homes all ready for their special guests.

And last but not least, a big thank you to everyone for all their hard work at RSPB Cors Ddyga, helping to provide valuable homes for nature!
