MISSING DOGS: Please take the time to read especially if in the Midlands

A member on another forum I go to has had three of her dogs stolen, please can everyone keep an eye out for them?

  • I saw this in the Express & Star last night I think.  Will keep an eye out though.  What a terrible shame, its sickening to think people could do this.

  • The poor lady. I do hope that whoever has them is caring for them.

I'm afraid dog theft is rife these days. You should never leave your dogs in a car for example (irrespective of the weather conditions) as dog thieves will steal a car simply to get the dog. This is particularly so for young pedigree dogs.

Many years ago we had two boxer puppies stolen from a litter. They were in an upstairs room of our house specially kitted out for the litter and their mum. They were just over 3 weeks old and only partially weaned. We had gone out for an hour. One thief shinned up a drainpipe half way, then somehow managed to get on the outside window sill using telephone wires to hang on to. He broke the window, took 2 of the puppies and put them in a duffle bag, which he lowered to his mate below. I have no idea to this day why the mum let him do this. When we got home, mum was waiting for us. She looked very ashamed and we spent some time looking to see what she had done that was naughty. Then we checked and found 2 pups missing. The police came quite quickly, and by the following morning they had caught the thieves and we got our pups back, safe and sound and unharmed. They found the pups in two different houses in a town about 10 miles away. One was tucked up in bed in a drawer apparently. One of the thieves got 3 months. The other got probation. We were very lucky. We kept one of the stolen pups for ourselves. She was the mother of our current eldest dog, Purdy, and she lived to be 14 - almost a record for a boxer dog, and possibly also holds the record for being the only 3 week old puppy to have had a ride in a police car!!!

Kat Tai - I hope your forum friend has the same luck we had.

    Cheers, Linda.

  • Trouble is it isn't even safe leaving dogs at home anymore (the dogs in the poster were stolen from their home).  People are out there scouting for potential dogs to steal in populat dog-walking areas and will follow people home to find out where they live!  It is madness!  It's high time dognappers were given stricter punishment rather than a slap on the wrist or a few months in prison, dogs are a part of someones family and the penalty should match the suffering that these twisted people cause others.

  • OMG! Hope that they are found safe & well... It's just awful! Will keep my eyes open too...

I'm about 8-10 miles from Walsall, I will keep an eye out. This is an unusual breed to be stolen in this area, mostly it's staffordshire bull terriers & huskies. It does happen a lot here.

Glad to hear you had a happy ending to your story Sparrow, you were lucky the police took it seriously, this isn't normally the case here as it happens so much.

  • They have been found and are back home where they belong! :-)

  • Very good news KatTai. No details yet ?

Oh I am pleased, I was telling a colleague who lives in Walsall the other day about them. How were they found / traced?

  • Good news KatTai. I hope they haven't come to any harm

    Cheers, Linda.

  • Wow! That's fantastic news Kat! So often it doesn't end quite so happily with these thefts...
