When I looked through the window at our seed feeder the other day I saw a goldfinch on the perch with its head tucked under its wing. It stayed like that for about fifteen minutes before flying away. This was at 11 am on a cold dull day. Has anyone else seen birds using feeders to sleep on?
Hi Mel, and welcome to the forum,
In the summer, one of my young house sparrows was often asleep inside the mesh tray feeder attached to a fence. He was always fluffed up like a fat puff ball, and fast asleep. I think he had eaten so much he couldn't fly away!!
Your little goldfinch must have been very sleepy, and maybe he was also too full to fly!
Cheers, Linda.

Hello Mel, as Sparrow says, I am only aware of having seen this in the summer. Hope your goldfinch was ok.
