  • Hi Blackbird,

I normally renew the RSPB memberships for several family members as an extra Xmas prezzie.

Especially now that we have a new multi million pound reserve in the Northeast.

  • My bird regulars have had their Christmas presents early - some new feeders which they are currently regarding with the utmost suspicion! Bring on the cold - then they will be too hungry to care about what the food is in as long as it is food...

The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

I also give RSPB membership to my family members - the gift that lasts all year!

A couple of years ago I received as a gift a beautiful book called the Bedside Book of Birds, by Graham Gibson.  It's a collection of poems, stories, and artwork celebrating birds and our shared history with them - everything from admiring their beauty to the many uses of their fat!  It's full of really interesting insights into how people have used and loved birds through the ages.  I've since bought copies for two other people.  Now I come to think about it, I lent it to someone ages ago and never got it back...

  • Have bought my son & daughter-in-law a new bird feeder from the RSPB catalogue, which is a tray & can be hung from a convenient tree branch, (but is easily cleaned as it has a removable liner). Have one myself & its very popular with my garden birds.
