Well that's one Christmas present down! Ordered a gift from the Brooke shop for my mum. Couldn't remember the name of the charity though so I just put donkey charityin the search engine and they came right up lol
My parents went on holiday to Tunisia this year, and they were rather upset at the state of the working horses there and when the Brooke catalogue came in one of my magazines it was a lightbulb moment! So I've bought them a gift that will help horses and donkeys like the ones they saw in Tunisia. I know it is something they'll appreciate :-)

Hi KatTai,
Excellent idea. We go to Egypt quite often, and in Luxor it is the same there with the horses that pull taxi carriages for the tourists. The Brooke charity has a horse hospital there that people can visit, and over the years since we first started going, they have done wonders. They first of all provided shelters at all the main horse taxi places, and also in various other places along the roads where the drivers stopped for breaks. This ensured the horses were getting much needed shelter from the sun. They then started inspecting all the working horses, and any that looked in poor condition they took away from the drivers for treatment. The drivers obviously didn't like this as no horse meant no money, so gradually they started to take more care of their horses and value them better. The improvement is very noticeable.
Cheers, Linda.

Good to hear that they seem to be doing a good job!
The horses my mum saw were pulling carriages, they and another couple refused to get on until they brought out a healthy horse (they went through a few until one was brought out that was in a reasonable condition). They were part of a larger group though, and only they and another couple refused everyone else just got on. My mum was quite upset and it was a bit of a dampner on their holiday. It's a shame more people don't put their foot down though, it would probably help make a difference to those poor horses.
