What's happened to Bill Oddie on Autumnwatch ?

I know there was probably an announcement on the programme but I must've missed it.

I'm not complaining for a minute, Chris is very easy on the eye ;-) and I must confess to having quite a thing for him in my younger days lol! But I miss Bill ! Is he ok ? Will he be back ? Does anyone know ?

The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.

  • I too am a big fan of Bill Oddie, but also think that Chris has done a fantastic job, I think his knowledge, enthusiasm, humour and presentation style is excellent and probably appeals to a wider audience than Bill.

    Although I sincerely hope Bill recovers to his former self and feels able to take on TV presenting roles in the future I think it will be very hard for him to return to Spring/Autumn Watch.

    When he announced that he was taking a break from presenting I think the BBC had a very difficult decision to make in replacing him, the wrong choice could have been the end of the show, but by good sense or just good luck they have managed to keep the show as fresh as ever.

    I ......to wonder how Bill is fairing these days. {wondering here}

    Personally, I do not think he wil come back to Springwatch or Autumnwatch. He has moved on, and he is not getting any younger either.  He has long term medical issues as he has they will not go away overnight or ever in his case. So he needs to rest out and take his own time in what he is going to do next - be it come back to present new programmes or otherwise.

    He is not really a people person at all, and is better presenting his own programme.

    That is my own view about Bill.

  • I have to say that I like Chris - he is full of enthusation and interest about his subject.  He is good at what he does.

    I think he likes to tease Kate quite a bit though, but it is all in jest. {smile}

  • Think he announced in the summer that he wouldn't be back and that he wanted to leave it now to the young upstarts,(his words)

    I do appreciate all his knowledge and loved his programmes Birding with BO and BO Goes Wild,etc  but never liked him at all on the Watches.

  • I liked Bill as presenter but I also like Chris & think he's shaping up really well. I like the banter that Chris and Kate share - Kate seems a bit more inclined to give-as-good-as-she-gets with Chris than with Bill!

    Re Bill - did I hear he was filming something new so should be back on a screens sometime?

    Not sure about that, but he was filming in one of the marquees at Bird Fair last year (!!!) but still haven't seen the results of that on T.V. So possibly everything on hold at the moment.
