Autumnwatch

I have say that I think the BBC have got it right with the new timetabling for Autumwatch  ie  only one hour per week for 8 weeks. Spreading it out over half the Autumn season should prove interesting and possibly/hopefully varied.  Unplugged will also be on for half  an hour each Friday.  I found that really interesting in Springwatch, and thought it too short.  Looking forward to next Friday already.

 I wouldn't mind if they left out the badgers this time, I'm badgered out lol

All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.

  • hi Sooson

    Yes, you are right the BBC have changed the format of Autumnwatch.  It starts on Friday October 2nd  - of all nights in the week  (we will all be going out then) {eek) and carries on for 8 weeks in all.

    I think the Badgers and Deer articles should be reduced and more on the other subjects should be considerd instead,

    We will see what the new offerings show us. {thumbs up}

    Regards

  • Hi Blackbird

    I know what you mean about it being Friday nights, I also wonderif  the timing schedule 9-10pm might draw a few complaints, but they will show it again on Saturday afternoons to compensate. I wonder if its to do with Strictly on the other side!!!.  I suppose you can't please all of the people all of the time.. But I  do think a weekly programme is a good idea

  • Whilst I agree that the new format should be good, it's going to SO HARD having to wait a WHOLE WEEK for updates!!!

    Hi Soosin

    I think Strictly come Dancing is the main problem (will get Radio times tonight and have a look)  It is going to hog some of the main stream BBC  TV channels for quite a while now.  Radio Times gave us a free DVD and booklet on Strictly in this weeks edition, so that must have their version of trailering the new programme before it comes on  the TV.

    It is repeated on at 6.15pm on Saturday, as far as I know.  Yes, true that some people will be disappointed, and others will feel pleased about the changes.  I have to admit there where times when having 4 nights in a row became tiring and we found we had to arrange our evening around Autumnwatch, and Springwatch - it was more like a school timetable at the best of times

    Hi MarJus

    Again,  it will be hard to wait a week for the programme to come on.  , I would not be surprised if the BBC tantalises us with lots of trailers, and 'titbits' what has been going on - on Autumnwatch.   I can see that happening, and we will be left to mull it over for days on end.

    We will have to be strong!!!  {wink}

  • I wonder if the-powers-that-be felt, with the old-style Autumnwatch, there was a lack of variety to film and show us - hence the heavy emphasis on badgers and deer. In some ways I would like to see a Winterwatch  showing how our wildlife copes in real winter conditions. Granted we don't get a lot of real winter in south Bucks and what we do get can happen as late as April (!) but, as I understand it, Scotland certainly gets good old-fashioned winters at around the right time.

    The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

    The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

    Just read the Radio Times and I think Chris Packham has the same thoughts  as yourself and is also not sure if the times will still attract a Family Audience, which he, quite rightly, sees as core to the success of the series.

    mmmm I thought it might be good,  but like everything, once you stop and think about the nitty gritty .....  Time will tell.
