Roy Dennis writes a very interesting blog often about tracking ospreys. See http://www.roydennis.org/index.asp?id=11

The absolutely fascinating news is that Roy has caught and tagged Red 8T. Now Red 8T is an an osprey that is well known to osprey fans at Loch Garten.
Red 8T featured at Loch Garten in 2005. He was the young osprey that turned up and ousted OVS after EJ had started laying eggs. Red 8T proceeded to prepare the nest and kicked some of the eggs partially out of the nest. EJ then went and retrieved some of them and laid some more. Then on 25th April a very bedraggled Henry turned up and kicked all of the eggs out of the nest and gave EJ a good wigging. This caused EJ to sulk and she disappeared for nine days. Henry went to fetch her but in spite of feeding her very well she could not be persuaded to lay a second clutch thus another Loch garten season was lost. Mind you it allowed Henry to regain his strength as he was poorly. Now there was a young osprey that evicted Henry from Loch Garten in 2003. I have a feeling it was Red 8Talthough cannot be certain. Anyway Henry did manage to win the Loch Garten nest back before EJ turned up. If it is true that this bird was Red 8T then he was only a two year old at the time and he certainly was inexperienced as he did not seem to know much about anything other than fighting. One of the questions I had suggested that someone ask Roy Dennis back in June was "What has become of Red 8T"? It seems know we know.
Very interesting, Tiger. Thanks for pointing this out to us. I'm off now to use your link and read Roy's blog. ;-)
Smiles, Jan.
Oh it is a fascinating read as you might expect. We really will have an osprey derby with so many ospreys being tracked on the way south. Will Nimrod still show he is superior with his flying abilities or will red 8T and Morven mate prove that they can be even swifter which will be hard. Nimrod put in a few amazing flights both on the way south last year and on the way north this year.
Nimrod however is a bit of a Henry when it comes to holidays. He just stays a bit long in Africa and this can mean that a rival male has moved in with the wife when he gets back for breeding.
I just knew that if I clicked on your link I'd spend ages on the blog....and I was right! I should've been in bed a couple of hours ago <shakes head> but thanks :-)
Make the most of today because, unlike Sky+, there isn't a rewind button.
Thanks Tiger for the liknk and what an interesting post. It must be wonderful to be able tol see these birds close up and personal as Roy does.

I have been wondering the fate of Red 8T for some time. He intruded on the Loch Garten nest in 2004 and became EJ's partner for a short time in 2005 before Henry came back rather bedraggled on 25th April. He gets mentioned on page 27 of "Life of Ospreys" by Roy Dennis.
There was an incredible week in 2005 when after Red 8T had driven OVS away EJ was in the uncomfortable position of trying to protect the eggs and also feed herself as Red 8T was not good in the fish department.
Somehow my reply got lost. Just wanted to say I'm so grateful to you Tiger for the link to Roy Dennis' blog. It was fascinating reading and the entire site is of interest to me. What a find !! which I would never have found on my own.
11.45am.....Thanks Tiger for the info. and sorry for not thanking you for answering my queery the other day.
I only found this site about Ospreys last year and was so upset that I thought I would never watch again. AM I GLAD I CAME BACK...look at the wonderful time we have all had :o)
It is so good that you have the history of THE NEST and I for one am extremely grateful. Have Bookmarked Roy Dennis' page for later.
Question.....how do I upload picture for changing my avatar?
