i saw this bird in far away tree today whilst feeding the local ducks it was 10x zoom on my phone hence the horrendous quality . it was shaped like a small egret all black with a greyish beak. it has a a long neck it was curled up like a pretzel like egrets do when they sort of tuck their heads in to their backs. i could see the colour of its feet from the distance it was. its neck was too long to be a crown and it was slim built but long bodied just like and egret and was able to rotate its head in the same way as one. any suggestions on what this could have been other that a black heron/ egret. this was sighted in Birmingham 12/11/2024.
Nothing as glamorous as a Black Heron I'm afraid. It's a Cormorant
PS Looks like a favourite roosting spot judging by all the guano over the trees.
