I'm a groundsman in a small private estate (near the devon, dorset, somerset border), and we have a 60 acre conifer forest. This year we've had a successful hatching of goshawks! I just wanted to ask how rare are they in this area?
I've never seen one, but I gather the populations are beginning to pick up, particularly in the New Forest and Forest of Dean
You are very enlightened with your Goshawks, as they have been extensively persecuted in the past by game keeping interests. They are a rare bird in the UK, with less than 1000 pairs, so your local bird recorder would be very interested in your record.
