I bailiff a local fishing pond and would like to know if any one can identify this owl I caught on the cctv camera. I know it's not a great photo, but any help would be grateful, so I can get nesting boxes up for next year. The pond is on the outskirts of a village and has fields and a few small wooded areas all around. Many thanks Paul
It looks Barn Owl'sh to me

I agree, from that angle it does look like Barn Owl, good news about more boxes!

Thanks wasn't to sure. Couldn't decide if it's a Barn or Tawny
We are trying to keep the pond as natural as possible and encourage as much wildlife there as possible. Already have a few boxes up for the small birds, having a hedgerow planted iaround November time around the perimeter and leaving some places to nature to have free rain at.
We also have a pair of kingfishers around the pond, any ideas for nesting boxes for them
Hi Paul, Kingfishers tend to nest by burrowing long tunnels on banks next to water. Here's a LINK to more information. There are artificial tunnels you can purchase but I don't know how successful they can be.

Am having second thought now after googling 'back view of Tawny Owl' and looking at all the images, the shape is a bit shorter & chunky with different tail shape to Barn Owl ... and their box sizes are also different ... could play safe and put up one of each to see what you get? Description of your space sounds brilliant!
I would say it looks too chunky for a Barn Owl, so I'm going with Tawny Owl.
Thanks again for all the replies, just 1 more questions does anyone know of free plans for nest boxes for both Barn and Tawny owls please so I can make 1 off each many thanks
