I am trying to identify a bird by the song I’ve recorded. Can anyone help?North Pennines AONB.m4a
?Greenfinch
When I first listened to this I was thinking finch of some sort but wasn't sure which. I ran it through the Merlin App and it came up with Linnet. Merlin can get it wrong so this is a cautious ID.
Incidentally, when anyone asks for an ID whether it be song or photo it always helps to give some sort of context to the photo/audio such as where it was heard/seen and the habitat. This can help home in on possible species.

Thanks for the replies. I have attached a photo of the 2 birds (male & female). However, it’s not the best as I couldn’t get close enough & don’t have a zoom lens. Both are similar size to a pied wagtail. One has a red inverted u on its breast.
Just for further context, the photo is taken in teesdale in north Pennines on hillside a mile from our village. They have built a nest in my acer tree in my back garden so hopefully will have offspring at some point.
The 'red inverted u' definitely sounds like a male linnet
Thanks for this - just looked this up on the website and it’s definitely the common linnet. Cheers!
