Can anyone identify these feathers picked up in our field early today. About the size of my hand

Feathers in fields, esp this time of year tend to be pheasants around here......that'd be my guess.

Don’t think so. We have loads of pheasants and dare I say I have plucked a brace or two. This wing of feathers is quite different to both cock and hen pheasant plumage. Friend suggested a type of owl

Thankyou I’ll have a good look at references for that. We do sometimes see Kestrels around here

Happy to go with kestrel as I am really not good with feathers, and as I say, most tend to be pheasants around here. Whatever it was, it was dead sadly. Hopefully not mistaken for a pheasant when it was alive.
