I was shocked and amazed to see a lesser spotted woodpecker in Gilberdyke yesterday. It jumped out of a hedge bush like a sparrow out of sight. at first, I only saw the black and white markings and thought, na it was moving fast it was probably just a wag tail. I went across the road (quite a busy road at times with houses on either side) and looked in the bush I thought it might have flown to. And there it was in all its red crowned glory. It was gone before I could get close or take a picture. Made my day. Thanks, Foxel.
Hi Foxel and welcome to the forum! Many thanks for the news of your sighting and hope that you get to see this bird again, maybe even get a pic! For myself and others who may not know the difference between the Lesser and Greater spotted Woodpeckers here is a BTO video
